Access to good public schools are often on home buyers’ must-have lists. It’s no wonder then that the City of Bellevue, which boasts several nationally recognized high schools, draws so many interested buyers and frenzied bidding wars.
For the Chien family, location trumped the actual physical qualities of the house. They looked past the delapidated features of the home located in the sought-after Somerset neighborhood, keeping their eye on the prize — access to Newport High School, ranked in the nation’s top 100 high schools for 2013 by U.S. News and World Report. The house was listed at $500,000, but the Chiens paid $100K over asking price and waived the appraisal and inspection.
